What types of services do you provide?
We assist with Activities of Daily Living, including hygiene assistance, personal and incontinence care, dementia care, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, transportation, safety, companionship, and moral support.
How do I pay for your services?
- Private Pay: Clients can secure care at home for their loved ones using private funds at an hourly rate for shifts as short as four hours and as long as 24 hours.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: J&M Homecare’s services are covered by most Long-Term Care Insurance plans. We can assist clients with accessing their benefits by managing the details and documentation requirements.
- Veteran’s Benefits: We are an approved provider for the Veterans Administration and can help connect Veterans to benefits that may cover the cost of in-home care.
- Cal-Aim (Medi-Cal) Programs: We are contracted with several health plans through California Advancing and Innovative Medi-Cal (CalAIM) and can assist most Medi-Cal recipients at no cost to them.
Is your organization licensed in the State of California to provide Care Services to individuals and their families?
Yes, J&M Homecare Services LLC is a fully licensed Home Care Organization (HCO) and Comprehensive Care Management Services Organization. We are licensed to operate in the State of California through the Homecare Service Bureau division of the CA Department of Social Services. Our Home Care Organization numbers are: East Bay Region’s HCO#: 074700004, North Bay Region’s HCO#: 214700004, Central Valley Region’s HCO#: 394700004. We are the Employer of Record for our employees and follow all State guidelines for Home Care Services.
What kind of pre-hire screenings and background checks are performed before a caregiver joins our team?
- All of our caregivers are registered with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS)
- All caregivers are bonded and insured
- All of our caregivers are full employees of our organization, and therefore, J&M Homecare handles all employer responsibilities, including taxes and workers’ compensation insurance.
- Background screening, including fingerprinting, FBI, and Department of Justice background checks, is performed for all caregivers.
- All caregivers must pass drug testing and DMV screening
- Our caregiving staff has experience in four ascending levels of care, and each completes annual continuing education training.
Does J&M Homecare require a contract for care, what is the duration of the commitment, and is there a deposit required?
We provide both long-term and short-term care support and do not require a deposit. Our service agreement provides for a courtesy notice to discontinue services of 48 hours. We have a 4-hour minimum shift requirement, but do not have any daily, weekly, or monthly minimums.
Are there any limitations to what your caregivers can do?
We are a licensed non-medical service provider with a focus on Activities of Daily Living. We do not perform any medically invasive procedures such as injections, vital signs, or wound care, etc. We also cannot set up medi-sets or make any recommendations regarding medications. We recommend a family member or pharmacist assist with that responsibility based on the direction provided by your primary care physician. We can, however, offer medication reminders at the appropriate times and record basic health information.
For the safety of our clients and caregivers, we do not perform full lift transfers of clients. We can help arrange for appropriate medical equipment to be delivered, to assist with transfers, as necessary.
What do you charge for care?
We have regular hourly rates in each of our regional offices. We do not charge more for nights, weekends, or for higher acuity of care, and we do not require a deposit. We are able to assist with long-term care insurance billing and facilitate care through our strategic care partnership agreements with Medi-Cal.
Can I have just one consistent caregiver to provide care for me?
Our goal is always to provide consistency; we prefer to introduce a small team of caregivers whom we think would be a good fit for each client. This allows for coverage by caregivers already familiar with the client during times when a regular caregiver is on vacation, ill, or off for other reasons.
What if I don’t like the caregiver assigned to me?
We have an extensive roster of caregivers with various skillsets, experience, and personalities. The benefit of working with a full-service Home Care Organization (HCO) is the ability to discuss your needs or concerns about a Caregiver with someone from our office. Our Care Team will make arrangements to replace any caregiver if needed.
What languages do your caregivers speak?
All of our caregivers speak English, and many of our caregivers speak additional languages.
How far in advance do I need to request care?
It is always helpful to us to have an appropriate time to complete our client assessment and onboarding process. However, in the case of an emergency or last-minute need, we are certainly able to put care in place on the same day, depending on caregiver availability.
Can your caregivers drive the clients?
Yes, we have caregivers who can drive clients to appointments, errands, and events. We do DMV checks at the time of hire for our caregivers and also confirm that they have proper auto insurance. If a caregiver is requested to drive the client’s vehicle, the client must provide insurance on their car as well.
